Abstract
Religious harmony in Indonesia is one ofmajor issues that has emerged lately. It is also an
important issue which should be put into first priority and discussed by many parties. Each
culture in Indonesia has actually local wisdom providing the means to resolve the issue. The
research reveals the wisdom of local residents in Kampung Sawah, Bekasi City in
maintaining harmony and religious tolerance. This study employed a qualitative research
approach of anthropology, ethnography and law. Based on this research, local wisdom in the
community of local residents in Kampung Sawah is also inseparable from the values of
mutual respect (tolerance), respect for differences, appreciation and respect for the spirit of
ancestor, togetherness embodied in the activities of voluntary work / mutual cooperation,
sincerity, love peace, not discrimination, open to the values of the outside and be consistent.
In this village Christians and CatholicsBetawiare united with the same cultural roots to the
Muslim Betawi. Christian / CatholicBetawi still wear traditional clothes in doing procession
and worship. There is no spiritual or religious guidance from the relevant authorities. Bekasi
local agencies only give attention to Kampung Sawah, which has the potential to become a
tourist attraction. Thus, there should be serious effort to preserve local wisdom to strengthen
religious tolerance, respect for diversity and maintain customs by not seeing religious
background.
