Abstract

This study is to find the empirical evidence of whether or not there is relationship between the motivation and the recount text writing skill of the eighth grade students of the 174 Junior High School Jakarta in the second semester of the 2019/2020 academic year. According to the English teacher information, there is no excellent class, so the writer assumed that the ability of writing skill is quite the same, then the writer chooses one class, VIII-A randomly as a sample of the research. Based on the objective above, the writer used a quantitative survey method and the questionnaire and the test as the instruments. The questionnaire was given to obtain the data of the X variable (students’ motivation), the writer used the questionnaire consisting of 25 valid items and 9 drop items. The writing test was given to obtain the Y variable (writing skill). The result from the calculation, the data are normally distributed and the data are linear too. So that be continue to do correlation analysis. The correlation is r-observed = 0, 472 and r-table = 0, 320 in significant 0, 05 with n = 36. Because r-observed > r-table, so Ho was rejected and Hi was accepted. After know the correlation result, the writer analyzes the correlation coefficient significant test. The value of t-table = 1, 69 and t-observed = 3, 53. That means, Ho was rejected and Hi was accepted, it proved that there is a significant relationship between the motivation and the recount text writing skill of the eighth grade students of the 174 Junior High School Jakarta in the second semester of the 2019/2020 academic year.
