Abstract

This study aims to obtain an overview of students' thinking processes related to understanding, understanding and use of fraction concepts and counting operations on fractions as learning outcomes with plot model and describing phenomena that occur in fraction learning and operations so that substantive theories are developed relating to the thought process. The method used in this study is qualitative with ground theory design, a type of systematic design so that data can be obtained through observation, interviews, and documentation with open coding, axial coding and selective coding techniques. The subjects in this study were 22 elementary school students in grade IV at one of the schools in Purwakarta. From this study the conclusions are as follows: (1) mental representation and semiotic students greatly influence the process of thinking students about the concept of fractions and operations by doing one-on-one mapping, from one representation to another form of representation, (2) implementation of plot model contributing to the development of students' thinking processes about the concept of fractions and their operations through representation in the form of plot model that give an understanding that fractions have a part of one entity, and give an understanding that the operation of two fractions comes from the same unit, (3) the ability of students to construct representations of a fraction in a plot model, can provide indirect negative or positive contributions to the process of thinking of students about the concept of fractions and operations, and (4) intervening conditions give indirect influence on the process of thought students, where mood, emotion, pleasure and sadness affect the implementation of plot model learning, and implementation, affect the process of thinking students about the concept of fractions and operations
