This paper reports on a small scale investigation into preservice teachers’ multitasking behaviours during a course in a teacher education program (TED). Specifically, it addresses three research questions, 1) how frequent do preservice teachers do multitasks with smartphone, 2) what are the types of preservice teachers’ multitasking behaviour, and 3) to what extent does multitasking behaviour affect preservice teachers’ learning. To this end, we did a classroom observation where smartphone was used to facilitate learning. During the observation, we wrote notes concerning preservice teachers’ multitasking behaviour with their smartphone. In addition, a total of 35 preservice teachers was surveyed. Findings of this study show that 97.14% of preservice teachers do multitasking in class; although the frequency and types of multitasking with smartphone vary. The findings also highlight fifteen types of multitasking behaviour with two most common activities: texting and searching. The analysis of preservice teachers’ responses on the survey as well as the observation data suggest that multitasking behaviour contributes both positively and negatively to preservice teachers’ learning. In reference to the findings, implications of the study to TEP are offered.

This paper reports on an auto-ethnographic study aiming to identify insights into the practice of using smartphone to facilitate online testing in context of second language teacher education (SLTE). In total of fifty-four pre-service teachers participated in the study. Two methods were employed to collect data, including observation and written-reflection. Additional data gathered from interview and students’ activity logs on the website were also used to triangulate the data collected through the initial methods. A thematic analysis were carried out to analyse the qualitative data. Findings of the study show that smartphone is viable as an electronic tool to facilitate online testing in SLTE context. More importantly, the use of Moodle as an online test platform fits both the teacher and the students’ needs on several aspects such as design, test structure, and online test activity. The study also highlights benefits and challenges of employing sequential and multiple attempt test modes and delayed feedback on online tests. Implications of the findings on the practice of online testing using smartphone in context of SLTE and further research in the field are also discussed.
This article provides an explanation of the fractional learning model i.e. a Table-Sized Matrix model in which fractional representation and its operations are symbolized by the matrix. The Table-Sized Matrix are employed to develop problem solving capabilities as well as the area model. The Table-Sized Matrix model referred to in this article is used to develop an understanding of the fractional concept to elementary school students which can then be generalized into procedural fluency (algorithm) in solving the fractional problem and its operation.
