"Abstract—This study aimed to analyze the effect of formative test types and\r\nattitude towards Mathematics on learning outcomes. The hypotheses are: (1)\r\nThe outcome of students' Mathematics learning measured by multiple-choice\r\ntest items is higher than that on essay test items. (2) There is an interaction\r\neffect between the formative test types and attitudes towards mathematics on\r\nlearning outcomes. (3) The learning outcome of students who have a positive\r\nattitude on multiple choice test items is higher compared to those receiving\r\nessay test items. (4) The learning outcome of students who have a negative\r\nattitude on multiple choice test items is lower compared to those receiving\r\nessay test items.\r\nQuasi-experimental method was used in this study. Data were analyzed using\r\ndescriptive and inferential statistics. The sample in this study was 180 Grade\r\n10 students in a government secondary school named SMAN 65, selected by\r\ncluster random sampling method. The results showed that: (1) The\r\nmathematics learning outcome measured by a multiple choice test was\r\ngenerally higher than that of an essay test, (2) There was an interaction effect\r\nbetween the formative tests and attitude towards Mathematics and the\r\nlearning outcome in Mathematics, (3) The outcome of Mathematics learning of\r\nstudents who had a positive attitude towards Mathematics was higher\r\ncompared to those receiving essay test questions.
