It has a tropical climate with average temperatures ranging between 22.1° - 32.6° Celsius. Jambi has a huge natural potential for tourism in Indonesia. There are more than 60 natural and cultural attractions, but the objects of tourism in Jambi are currently very poor. Many tourist attractions are not maintained and can even be said to be unfit to serve as a tourist attraction because of the lack of infrastructure and facilities. In addition, Jambi people have not yet recognize the potential of tourism attractions in the province. This study aimed to (1) determine the communication strategy of the Department of Culture and Tourism of Jambi, (2) determine the constraints or obstacles encountered in implementing the communication strategy, (3) find a solution that can be done to overcome obstacles or barriers in implementing the communication strategy. The method used was qualitative adopting the model of Miles & Huberman. The results of this study show that strategies, barriers, and solutions conducted by the Department of Culture and Tourism of Jambi province to publicize the objects of tourism had not reached optimum result. Inadequate infrastructure facilities, accommodation and transportation were not supportive. Access to all the attractions was still unadequate because there were still many damaged roads. The bureaucratic process was onother issue in which it was very difficult to deal with the regulations.
