Menurut penelitian yang sudah pernah dilakukan didapatkan data bahwa produk utama metabolit pada tanaman genus Sterculia adalah flavonoid. Flavonoid merupakan senyawa metabolit yang memiliki aktivitas farmakologi sebagai antioksidan. Penelitian aktivitas antioksidan dari beberapa tanaman genus Sterculia sudah dilakukan. Diantaranya seperti penelitian yang dilakukan sebelumnya dalam penelitian tersebut menentukan aktivitas antioksidan terhadap tanaman Sterculia stipulata menggunakan metode FRAP (Fericc Reducing / Antioxidant Power methode). Antioksidan berperan penting dalam pencegahan dan pengobatan gangguan metabolisme yang disebabkan oleh stres oksidatif. Tanaman genus Sterculia secara makroskopis memiliki morfologi berupa bentuk pohon atau semak dengan daun sederhana dengan tepi daun bergerigi, berkelamin tunggal, bunga dengan jumlah kelopak lima. Tanaman genus Sterculia secara mikroskopik pada umumnya memiliki bentuk trikoma seperti bintang. Tipe stomata pada beberapa tanaman genus Sterculia pada umumnya memiliki tipe anomositik dan aktinositik. Isolasi senyawa terhadap tanaman genus Sterculia sudah dilakukan oleh penelitian sebelumnya. Senyawa yang sudah berhasil diisolasi sebagian besar berasal dari senyawa flavonoid seperti Apigenin.
