The independent variable (X) is self-confidence and the dependent variable (Y) is speaking skill. This research used quantitative method in term correlational study method. The population in this research were seven classes with 245 students of eight grade from VIII – A until VIII – J. There is no excellent class So, the writer chose one class randomly that was VIII – A consisted of 30 students. To get data of X variable (Self-Confidence), the writer used questionnaire to know the extent of students’ self-confidence. The writer used a speaking test or interview, to get the data of Y (speaking skill). Based on the result of the correlational study analysis, it was found that the ro>rt = 0.877 > 0.325 ro was higher than rt, Ho was rejected and Hi was accepted. It can be concluded that there is a relationship between the Self - Confidence and the Speaking Skill of the Eighth Grade Students of SMP Negeri 263 Jakarta in the Second Semester of the 2019/2020 Academic Year. It can be continued to do T significant correlation analysis, the result was to was 10.565 tt was 1.70, to was higher than tt Ho was rejected and Hi was accepted. So, it can be concluded there is significant relationship between the Self - Confidence and the Speaking Skill of the Eighth Grade Students of SMP Negeri 263 Jakarta in the Second Semester of the 2019/2020 Academic Year. Through this research, the writer hopes after the English teachers know the relationship between self-confidence and students’ speaking skill, the teachers should improve their student speaking skill. The students should also be confidence in speaking practice, so that interactive learning can be developed.
