"Background. ADHD is the most common neurobehavioral disorder of childhood,\r\nand frequently encountered childhood-onset neurodevelopmental disorder. The\r\nimpact of ADHD on individual and society is enormous. Methylphenidate is the most\r\nresearched and prescribed pharmacological treatments for ADHD, but about 15 – 20\r\n% of patients having no benefit. Few studies have investigated the use of QEEG\r\nmeasurement in predicting which children with ADHD respond positively to\r\nmethylphenidate, but the result is not conclusive yet. The use of QEEG for predicting\r\noutcome is based on the ability to identified the underlying cortical dysfunctions.\r\nObjectives. To measure the role of QEEG profile in predicting which children with\r\nADHD respond positively to methylphenidate.\r\nMethods. A historical cohort study base on consecutive children with ADHD of 4 –\r\n15 years old that have recent diagnosed, and plan to receive methylphenidate in\r\nP3TKA clinic. The predictor is QEEG profile that divided into two groups consisting\r\nof cortically hypoaroused and non-hypoarousal. The primary outcome is respond\r\npositively to methylphenidate over four weeks therapy.\r\nResults. Subjects consisted of 19 girls (19,8%) and 77 boys (80,2%), with mean of\r\nage is 8,33 ± 2,74 years old. ADHD patients consisted of 46,9% inattentive type, and\r\n53,1% combined type of ADHD. The mean dose of methylphenidate is 0,42 mg/kg.\r\nThe predictors of good respond to methylphenidate are QEEG cortically\r\nhypoaroused (RR = 2,02; 95% CI 1,72 – 4,22) and intelegensia (p = 0,02).\r\nConclusions.
