Abstract

Abstract. The purpose of this study was to describe the philosophy of education in the folk games of the archipelago.This study used ethnographic methods of conducting research with local sites originating from the culture that made the object of research. Based on research obtained 13 traditional games on the island of Sumatera, which still play a role, including: geulayang tunang, cato, bledukan, ligu, dakocan, sundung khulah, erdeger, gamang, tak-tek, bicau, dan tejek-tejekan. The philosophy of education contained in the few games on the more dominant is the philosophy of pragmatism, realism and existentialism. Other educational philosophy that is not too dominant contained in rekonstruksionisme, idealism, and progressivism. However, from a variety of folk games on the island of Sumatera contains the value of education in the form of perseverance, think of ideas, creative and focused thinking. This folk games can strengthen friendship and mutual familiar to others. In games cato, gamang, tak-tek, and tejek-tejekan a typical game of children in the Indonesian island of Sumatera that other is known by different names.
